DESCRIPTION:Young teens have fun and amazing outdoor hands-on learning experiences as they go charter fishing\, snorkeling\, sailing\, hike through forests\, wade through wetlands\, explore dunes and more! This really fun MSU pre-college program could be the highlight of your summer – it could even change your life! \nLearning sessions and recreation are designed to: \n\nIncrease teens’ appreciation and enjoyment of the outdoors\, natural resources\, and science.\nIncrease teens’ knowledge about the Great Lakes\, natural resources ecology and management issues.\nDevelop strong attitudinal attachment to Michigan’s unique natural resources and bioregional features.\nFoster scientifically rooted environmental stewardship.\nDevelop and expand career and personal interests.\nDevelop leadership skills and self-confidence.\nIncrease social and academic skills needed for a successful transition to college and life as an adult.\n\n4-H Great Lakes Natural Resources Camp Flyer 2019 (PDF)

SUMMARY:MI Paddle Stewards: Clay Township\, Blueways of St. Clair
DESCRIPTION:Become an ally in the fight against aquatic invasive species! Paddlers 18 years and older are invited to join Michigan Sea Grant and partners for a one-day volunteer program about protecting water trails from aquatic invasive species (AIS). You will learn how to detect and report any invasive species spotted while paddling a water trail\, and how to clean your crafts to avoid giving invaders a free ride. As a new ecosystem ambassador\, you’ll be encouraged to pass your knowledge to other paddlers and seek out other volunteer opportunities to help keep your local water trails clean and healthy. \n\nThis workshop includes lunch and a paddling experience (with kayaks and gear provided by Michigan Sea Grant) on a nearby water trail! Participation is free thanks to funding from the Michigan Invasive Species Grant Program (www.michigan.gov/invasives). Find more detailed information about the workshop on the event’s registration page.
