SUMMARY:Training Researchers to Inform Policy workshop
DESCRIPTION:The Scholars Strategy Network Michigan Chapter is hosting a day-long workshop to equip researchers with the knowledge and skills they need to make research accessible and useful to policymakers and civic leaders. \nWorkshop participants will learn about where research is (and isn’t) used in the policy-making process\, how to build relationships with policy-makers\, how to create clear and compelling research-based policy recommendations\, and how to work effectively with the media. After the interactive skill-building sessions\, the day will conclude with a panel of legislators\, policy makers\, and media discussing their policy engagement. Participants will come away with new ideas for connecting their scholarship to policy-makers and strategies for implementing those new ideas. \nThere is no cost to participate\, but pre-registration is required. SUMMARY:8th Biennial State of the Strait conference: Status and Trends of Ecosystem Health Indicators
DESCRIPTION:The State of the Strait is a unique binational (Canada-United States) collaboration that hosts a conference every two years that brings together government managers\, researchers\, students\, environmental and conservation organizations\, and concerned citizens. Participants work to understand historical ecosystem conditions and assess current ecosystem status in order to achieve a better future for the Detroit River and western Lake Erie. \nMichigan Sea Grant is one of several groups sponsoring the 2019 State of the State Conference on November 19\, 2019 in Windsor\, Ontario.
