Volunteers are needed to pick up litter along the shoreline and in the water. SUMMARY:Inland Seas Education Association is coming to Houghton
DESCRIPTION:The Inland Seas’ tall ship schooner will be sailing to Lake Superior this summer! \nJoin us in: \n\nHoughton\, July 25\nMarquette\, August 1\nSault Ste Marie August 7\n\nWe are offering a place-\, vessel-\, and experiential-based program to educate college students on the cultural heritage within ceded lands and waters retained by Tribal Nations. Come with us as we travel aboard the Inland Seas’ vessel to uncover the wealth of culture and heritage that Lake Superior has to offer. \nThis program is open to all. Preference will be given to tribal members enrolled in college/university. DESCRIPTION:Join local conservation professionals in Northwest Michigan to learn how you can contribute to our work while you are out paddling and playing on the water! Our events will include options for remote learning paired with three paddles on the water to practice what was learned online. You will learn how to identify and report invasive species while preventing their spread. Participants are encouraged to either complete the MI Paddle Stewards online training (linked below) or attend the virtual presentation hosted in the evening on July 27th via Zoom before joining one of the paddle events. \nSign up for the MI Paddle Stewards course at: michiganseagrant.org/mi-paddle-stewards/. \nRegister here for the training session and/or paddling events. \n\nJuly 27th | 5:30-6:30 PM | Virtual Training on MI Paddle Stewards\nJuly 28th | 5:30-7:30 PM | Crooked River Paddle\nJuly 29th | 9 – 11 AM | Torch River Paddle\nJuly 30th | 9 – 11 AM | Walloon Lake Paddle\n\nParticipants must bring a kayak/canoe/paddle board for the on-water events. SUMMARY:Life of the River 2021: Monocle Lake Day Use Area\, Bay Mills\, MI
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we celebrate the Life of the River!\nSt. Marys and Tahquamenon River\nJuly – September\, 3 unique events \n\nJuly 28\, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. – Monocle Lake Day Use Area\, Bay Mills\, MI\nAugust 25\, 1 – 5 p.m.  – Tahquamenon Logging Museum\, Newberry\, MI\nSeptember 11\, 1 – 5 p.m. – Tahquamenon River Mouth\, Paradise\, MI\n\nEvent recommended for families with children age 8-13. Parents/Guardian and siblings encouraged to attend as well. Children under 8 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian during all activities. This event is free to 4-H members and their families! \nLimited space for each day’s event. When registering\, please only select the days you plan to attend. \nGeneral Schedule:\n30 minutes – orientation to the day\n1-hour – Educational activity 1 (group 1)\nEducational activity 2 (group 2)\n1-hour  –  Snack and group activity time\n1-hour – Educational activity 1 (group 2)\nEducational activity 2 (group 1) \nParents or guardians are responsible for providing transportation for drop off\, pick up. Parents and families are strongly encouraged to participate along with the youth during the event\, although it is not required. \nAll children participating between the ages of 5-19 must be registered 4-H members. Registration for 4H is free. 4-H registration is available online at https://mi.4honline.com/\, or by visiting the your local county extension office. Any child must be registered as a 4-H member prior to the event. \nChildren participating in the Life of the River Event do not have to participate in any future 4-H events if they so choose. \nPlease note information will be emailed to you after registering with details on parking and meet up locations as well as more info on the days event.
