The Great Lakes are an incredible resource, owned collectively by all of us and dependent on our stewardship. They contain 20% of all the surface fresh water on planet Earth. But despite their size, they remain vulnerable in many ways. That is why since 1991, the mission of the Great Lakes Education Program (GLEP) has been to increase Great Lakes literacy and stewardship in southeast Michigan.
Our approach has been to work with teachers and their students, both in the classroom and on the water, to make the Great Lakes real to future generations who will become the decision makers of tomorrow.
