Michigan Sea Grant and partners recently celebrated the launch of a fresh edition of Beautiful Belle Isle, a self-guided tour of Michigan’s unique island park. Seated in the middle of the Detroit River, this state park offers walking and biking paths, paddle launches, sculpted gardens, and vibrant native habitats. Monuments and statues pepper the park, and visitors can head indoors to explore aquarium tanks, nature center exhibits, tropical conservatory plants, and Great Lakes maritime history.
The newly released second edition of Beautiful Belle Isle highlights 22 sites of historical, cultural, and ecological significance. Designed to be easy to carry, the spiral-bound guidebook allows readers to explore the island by foot, by bike, or car in an accessible, self-guided way.
This expanded edition represents a new level of collaboration among Michigan State University Extension, Michigan Sea Grant, and Belle Isle Conservancy.
