Michigan Sea Grant is pleased to announce that University of Michigan graduate Emily Stuller has been selected as a finalist for the nationally competitive John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship.
She is currently pursuing a Master’s of Science in Sustainable Systems and Environmental Policy at the University of Michigan, which will help her to further pursue her interest in working at the intersection of science, commerce, and policy. Through this program, Stuller has gained experience in policy and sustainable business practices, building on her technical undergraduate training in marine science. Her capstone project focused on corporate sustainability, which allowed her to explore her interest in translating science to action. Stuller’s environmental education experience included distilling scientific concepts into accessible information for many different audiences, allowing her to develop the skills to communicate about coastal issues in a way that is meaningful to people from a variety of backgrounds.
Emily will join the 2026-27 Knauss cohort after completing her master’s degree in Sustainability Studies at the University of Michigan School for Environment and Sustainability. Stuller previously earned her bachelor’s degree in Marine Sciences from Florida Gulf Coast University. Hosted by the National Sea Grant College Program, this fellowship supports early career scientists and policy professionals as they apply their academic training to real-world challenges facing the Great Lakes and oceans.
Sea Grant has selected 48 finalists from 26 Sea Grant programs across 26 states for the 2026 Knauss Fellowship program. The fellowship places early-career professionals in legislative and executive branch offices in the Washington, D.C., area, where they contribute scientific and technical expertise to the federal policymaking process for critical marine and Great Lakes issues.
This spring, the finalists will participate in the placement process, during which they will connect with one another and potential host offices. Sea Grant’s 47th class of Knauss fellows will officially begin their fellowships in June 2026.
