In response to the high number of Great Lakes drownings in June 2011, the Great Lakes Surf Rescue Project (GLSRP) began teaching Great Lakes Water Safety classes to educate the public about the hazards of the surf environment. Since then, the group has taught 21 classes on Lake Michigan and Lake Superior with the philosophy “Water-Safety first! Surf-Rescue only as a last resort.”
The Great Lakes Surf Rescue Project offers public and private “Water Safety Surf Rescue” classes. They are scheduled throughout the summer, with upcoming class set for:
- Sunday, July 7 – Bridgman, Michigan – Public Class at WEKO Beach House
- More dates to be announced
