November 7-9, 2019
Flint, Michigan
The Great Lakes Stewardship Initiative invites you to the 7th Place-Based Education Conference, held this year in Flint, Michigan.
Place-based education transforms how teachers teach and how students learn by expanding classrooms to include local organizations, history, and natural features. Investing in place helps youth engage in meaningful learning and civic life, provides vital support for teachers, and strengthens communities.
Three Days of Inspiration and Community
This national conference engages place-based education experts and practitioners who are committed to transforming teaching and learning to provide meaningful opportunities for young people to protect the environment and enhance their communities.
Keynote & Book Signing by Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha
Dr. Hanna-Attisha received her bachelor’s and Master of Public Health degrees from the University of Michigan and her medical degree from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine (MSUCHM). She completed her residency at Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit, where she was chief resident. She is currently an associate professor of pediatrics and human development at MSUCHM.
Her new bestselling book What the Eyes Don’t See: A Story of Crisis, Resistance, and Hope in an American City is a riveting, beautifully rendered account of a shameful disaster—the Flint water crisis—that became a tale of activism and hope.
